The Truth
05 SEP 13 VOL 1
So, here we are like a 10 year old
on Christmas Eve. Ahhhh yes, football is
back! Lets all take a deep breath and be thankful to the football gods that we
made it through another grueling offseason. I know, I know, football has been
back since late July. It’s not the same and you know it! You can only enjoy the
preseason if you are a hardcore fan like myself when you can actually enjoy
watching the depth on your team develop before your eyes. Now on the eve of kickoff, let me give you
five things to watch for in week one.
1.
Broncos/Ravens- My first concern is not what the
mainstream media is constantly talking about. It’s actually Peyton’s arm. After watching him
throw this preseason, his lack of velocity is really showing at 38. With him
having concrete cleats, the Ravens must keep constant pressure.
2.
Seahawks/Panthers- Can the ‘hawks break their cross-country
curse? The truth is that this curse is going to have to be broken by that
ferocious D. Plain and simple; Stop Cam and have Wilson put up 21 points and
the curse is broken. (I believe it will be broken)
3.
Falcons/Saints- Ok, Ok, Sean Payton is back. Unfortunately,
Their D still isn’t. Rob Ryan has a long way to go. The key is can Osi and that
pass rush keep up with Brees all day and have him running all day? Both teams
have an elite offense but the Falcons pass rush is a concern.
4.
Niners/Packers-Is Kaep going to live up to the
hype? This year we are going to see him throw a lot. It’s the NFL, the read
option will be figured out. But, has Dom Capers figured out his Defense? The
way Clay Mathews is talking, apparently he has. Even with San Fran being thin
on WR’s, I don’t believe Dom can stop them.
5.
Giants/Cowboys- We all know the issues with
uncle Jerry. Those aside, it’s still going to be a long, miserable season. The G-men
have never lost in Jerry world and they are not about to start. The lack of
leadership and having too many playcallers will show early and often. You can’t
put that on top of Romo’s choking abilities.
Those are my top five story lines to
watch for in week 1. I could go on for each and every game, but lets be honest,
you have to get back to stressing out about who to start in your fantasy league
this week. Trust me, I’m in five leagues and there is nothing better than
getting that big week one victory over that one guy who has been trash talking
since last December. After you set your rosters , the one truth you must follow
is just sit back with an ice cold brew and enjoy meaningful football!

Great insight. While I agree that Peyton's lost zip is noticeable, I do feel like his passes are much more crisp than last season. I also feel that the Baltimore D will be better than most think, although not immediately as it will take them some time to gel. Although their D is ferocious, I wonder if Wilson will take a step back this year, or if he will continue to improve off of last year's amazing second half. I look forward to reading more of The Football Told Truth.
